Well, i can’t remember when was the last time i blogged. couldn’t even
bother to look up in the calendar to know bout it. where did i go, wat did i
do, whom did i meet and why did i go quiet all this while? hopefully, all will
be answer in here. if not, then u’ll have to get to know me a lil’ bit more!
It’s been a busy times for me, basically everything evolving ard church
activities. to kick-off right after my last sem final was EYM Talent Jam. not
sure if i did share this here but according to my still-working brain, my
memory did not have a backup of it. i see lots of talents from the youths. and
i enjoyed their dramas, singing and dancing. these are hidden talents that need
to be exploit. a great nite where even the parents who attended enjoyed it very
much. now they know their children have tremendous talent.
Next was the free-la-la event (Free2Be: Amplified). it was held in the
stadium and this was my 2nd time going for it. previously was part of the audience
but this time, i was the security rounding the venue. the event was held during
the weekend starting from fri (Aug 17th) to sun (19th) at nite. fyi, F2B is
actually a youth rally event which is held annually and this was the 4th
or 5th (not sure…) consecutive time that it was held.
The music team started their practice for this event way back ard in
march (think so…) this yr. u might think why start so early but actually it was
not. for me, the event actually started on wed of that week. why? well, cos we
have to start off wit the 160 boxes of books (Book of Hope) sponsored
by the Scripture Union. i literally underestimated the 160 boxes which i
thought it was just mere small book but actually it was not when i get my hands
on it. have to shout out a big thanx to all the blessed ppl who’ve come along
the way to give a hand or two in carrying, unpacking, packing, loading,
transporting and unloading from church to the stadium. in the midst, i’ve get
to know Ps. Nirhal (hopefully I din spelt wrongly, hehe…) and Rev. Matthew.
great individuals in my opinion. Ps. Nirhal was the one who gave encouragement
to us while we were meddling with the BOH task. Rev. Matt even give us a hand
during the F2B as security once in awhile when he sees us in need of manpower.
Just one word to summed up the whole event… AWESOME!!! 3 nites was
tiring. it doesn’t matter wat u’re handling that nite, be it the musician or
the usher or security. everyone felt the fatigue. but we never complain and the
effort was well-worth for the glory of God! well, this is the first and the
last event for me that i got involved but who knows. so, might as well give it
the best shot! my job was just basically going round the front stage, the entrance,
the stand and even outside the stadium. however the first 2 nites i have to
stationed myself at the entrance due to lack of manpower. and the crowd? they
were not as rowdy as previously. everyone was under control. a BIG credit
should go out to the whole security team, you guys (you know who u are) rock
man! a special mention here reserve to Jeremy who left the following week to
kch to study law at SEGI college. he was the one person that i see who is
committed wit the tasks given to him.
Before i forget, there was life-drama on the final nite which i was
involved. initially, i’ve never thought i would wanna get involve in a drama
again after the initial one during the talent jam previously. this drama was
based on the testimony of different ppl, including my director (Ian). a BIG
thank you to God for giving me another chance, Ian for trusting me taking up
the role which i myself was unsure about initially and also Randy who is my
so-called son who was willing to let me slapped him for REAL during rehearsal
and on the actual play itself. dun think anyone is willing to let me do that.
other ppl to thank which I enjoyed working wit for the drama would be Justin,
Jo, Evangeline, Joy and Jane. last but not least, all gratitude should go to
the music/worship team for sweats and tears endured throughout their practice
and actual events. w/o them, the event will not run and there’ll be no point
for us to be there and w/o us, they wouldn’t be able to run the event smoothly.
Ok, photos can be found here and i’ll let ‘them’ do the rest of the talking.
After this event, of course is the church family camp. same here, it was
also my 2nd time. held on the 30th Aug at a hotel till the 2nd of this month.
i’ve enjoyed my time there and i’ve learnt alot as well. i can tell u it’s
about packing ur bags and just check-in cos we have to bring along our
instruments along wit us since the hotel ballroom do not have any except for
the sound system. we brought the whole drum set, bass guitar, 3 guitars, bongo,
3 amplifiers and 1 sound mixer. bringing it and setting it up was easy but
dismantling and packing it up and sending it back to church was the tedious
part.
Food was good and after every meal, sure confirm go loo to unload. for 2
nites in a row i had prawns as one of the dish. the prawns on the 1st
nite cooked wet was not that nice but the 2nd nite was delicious, it
was cooked wit nestum. i think the prawns on the 1st nite if they
were to cook it wet, they should have cooked it wit rice wine. will be really
ooohm! deer meat was also served this time. really couldn’t get enough of it
cos i dun get to eat this like normal. not only did i have the usual 3 meals
but even have morning tea break, afternoon tea break and late nite supper as
well. one delicacy that worth to mentioned here would be cheese cake being
served. one that got a lot of attention and if u’re thinking of second round,
u’ll have to be greedy in the first round.
During the camp, we have youth service and our pastor was Ps. Les from
melaka. sermons was simple but yet straight to the point and made me ponder
upon it even after the service. the service is in the morning, afternoon and
nite as well. but normally we’re allowed to go off early ard 3 for the session
and i’ll go swimming. i do not know how to swim but then i just like to ‘drown’
myself in the pool, a sort of enjoyment for me.
The only problem i have this time was sleeping. i was sharing room wit my
3 other frens (A, M & J). first nite i slept around 6am of the next morning
which was suppose to be up at 7 to attend service. all thanks to M who snored
throughout the nite. it was not ordinary snore but getting louder each time. i
myself dun like to share bed wit other ppl despite my room having 2 single bed,
but i chose to sleep on the floor instead. to add on, i dun like to sleep ard
wit ppl who snore. not that i wan complete silent cos i do play music when i
sleep. i guess snoring is not the best music of all. the snoring sounded like a
tugboard ship transporting timber from miri to sibu or kuching. 2nd nite slept
at 3am and u’ll know wat u’ll get the next day. so, the morning service was not
easy to get thru cos din rest well on the previous nite. this is wat u called
‘fishing’.
The final nite we all planned not to sleep early and decided to watch tv.
and on star movies, they were running a horror movie marathon from midnite onward
till dun know wat time. we watched from midnite till 3 and we finished 3
movies! how was it u asked? sucks big time! lamed movies being aired and
shouldn’t be called horror in my opinion. i just have this habit of not able to
sleep early when staying in a hotel. started even when i was a lil’ boy,
staying in a hotel wit my parents oversea. i would be one staying up to watch
whatever is on the black box till the channel also closed down. not only do i
sleep late, i also tend to wake up early than usual. this is wat happened
church camp, slept at 6 and woke up at 7 again. guess the best place to sleep
is still my own bed at home.
There was one event i guess not much ppl know about it. it’s about our
room. initially we were staying on the 6th floor in a room which
faces the hillside. was disappointed not to get the one facing the sea though.
Since there was a few of us, we decided to duplicate 3 more keys cos it’s
easier for us to move in and out w/o any hassle. The other purpose is that, all
the lights, tv and aircon in the room can only be activate if the card key is
slot into the wall-switch. If having only 1 key then everytime we go out we
have to take it out but since we have more than 1, we just leave it there when
we went out. when we come back, the room was always cold and cosy. however on
sat nite when we went up to our room after dinner to get some stuff, we
realized our room was leaking where the aircon unit is. reported it to the
reception table and we were transferred to a floor below in a room but now this
time it was facing the sea. well, at least to enjoy the sea view for the final
nite there. at first i din know of why our room was leaking but J mentioned it
might be due to we on the aircon for the past 3 days non-stop. now it make
sense! the usual suspect is the one who is writing this. hehe…
Next up, it’s Curtin Open Day as well as the EYM Car Boot Sale which was
held on the same day which is the 9th of this month. the business was doing
well and i heard they were interviewed by a reporter and appeared on the local
paper the very next day. the sale was held at a library center. things like
shirts, pants, dress, belts, ties and even books was on sale for RM 2 for one.
some of the stuffs are given to the buyer free as well. Praise God to see that
the youth are beginning to mature. they were the one who sweat it out and as
for me, i just stand and watched.
As for Curtin Open Day, this time was way better than last time. there
was lots of stalls which sells food and games as well. heard the library was
having this competition, appeared to be guessing the weigh of one of the
encyclopedia book which i din know about. one interesting game which caught my
eyes was the rocket launcher sport. they give u the materials and u build ur
own rocket launcher. still not sure how the rocket launcher mechanism work but
it’s a combination of 2 soft drink bottles where made to face each other placed
inside a rocket-liked plastic. water is pumped into it and later on air is
released and pop, the rocket will fly over a less than a 100m range depending
on how good is the rocket being built.
There was concert as well, with different bands playing all sort of
genres. i do not have the pictures wit me, but will up it once i have it. i
tend to notice that Creed’s songs are always being played by them. songs like
‘my sacrifice’, ‘wide arms open’ and ‘one last breath’ is the usual one. to my
surprise, there was even one band that played all the ‘jiwang’ songs from the
likes of MLTR, Ronan Keating, etc. not to forget, a special mention goes out to
the sheesha/hookah stall!
RM5 for 10 minutes but actually one can stay on till it finishes. these things
are brought over by the middle-east students who studied here. i noticed that the
ppl here are skeptical about things that they dun see as a norm in their
everyday life. you have to see the way they stared at these ppl, it’s like they
thought these students are from some other planet. i’m not saying that it’s
good, just that the ppl passing by shouldn’t react in such a way. sigh…
typical mirian. just like a chinese phrase, ‘never seen a snake poop’. come to
think of it, i seriously haven’t seen one before! haha…
I’ve finished wit sharing wat I’ve done so far. never before i’ve blogged
this long. by the way, it’s durian season now. Dad bought a few the other day
and it was delicious. wish i was driving down to kch, cos u can get cheap and
good durians along the way. did once before and we bought by sacks and not few.
Lately, i’m into ice-cream and i think i’ll stop by Desserts’ every now
and then. fyi, i’m also a coffee-freak. just that i can’t afford it going to
San Fran or Coffee Bean. talking bout coffee, wonder when Starbucks will open
one franchise in miri. there’s one in kch airport. here, having only one shop
like Starbucks in one city is a big deal. but over in Europe, Starbucks can be
found in every row of the streets of that particular city!
Oh ya, now is also the puasa time for the muslim ppl ard the world. lots
of bazaar everywhere. usual thing that i’ll get first would be the keropok
lekor (fish cracker). over here, the fish cracker is lil’ short. but over in
terengganu where the keropok lekor originated, it is a long version. taste
great if it is crunchy, which is not too soft nor too hard. other than that,
the bbq fish smells good and taste great wit sambal sauce.
Coming up events… not gonna tell yet but it’s sure something big! so
stay tune then.
GB & cheers…
